Mr. Wagner apologizes for being pretentious, but not nearly enough. I liked having Richard Riordan as mayor. He was a major force in the successful reform of Los Angeles public schools. That reform has transformed the educational experiences of children in the LA ghetto, where I taught for 21 years.
